Guest Post: Go Floral – The Summer Trend for 2012

Fashion is in full bloom for the summer season as floral prints come out to play in a big way.  They’re a staple for spring and summer and 2012 is not exception; from poppies at Erdem, rouge roses at Prada and, well, all the flowers you can think of at Christopher Kane, those flowery numbers are out en masse and it looks like they’re here to stay for the long haul.

The runways were full to bursting with decorative and whimsical prints on lace and organza, seeing in a new season of gorgeous and girliness. The look was decidedly pretty and soft with beaded and applique numbers at Moschino, Cheap and Chic and Prada. Look for delicate patterns on playsuits and sheer dresses in dreamy fabrics to nail the look.

Floral stickers in a rainbow of hues lay under organza at Christopher Kane whilst summer-bright sunflowers sat on tulle at Rodarte. Preen preferred a monochromatic take on the trend, with smatterings of black florals overlaying crisp, white shirts. Necklines were kept high, letting prints and silhouettes do all the talking. Blouses and shirts are the perfect way to update the look for 2012, combining a delicate femininity with soft tailoring, a la Erdem and Chloe. Team your floral blouse with anything from a leather A-line skirt to denim and tailored separates.

Prim and proper was the name of the game at Erdem and Adam, with collars kept high and skirts kept low. The look was kept modern with a cinched-in waist and buttoned-up collars, as seen at Chloe and Matthew Williamson.

The queen of clashing colours and prints, Mary Katrantzou, provided the dissidence with a catwalk blaring that more is definitely more. Think punchy, technicolour florals evoking memories of warm sunny days in buttercup meadows and poppy fields. Edge-up the look with block colours, panels and clashes.
