Golden Globes Fashion 2011

I’m ecstatic about the fact that this year there were more hot-ies than not-ies at an awards ceremony for once! As always floor length gowns were the must have, although this time they fanned out into delicate trains, and necklines were brought right up to the collarbone. It was a colourful event with pinks and greens being the main attraction and black popping in here and there. Sleeves covered skinny arms and jewels dangled simply from ears. Here are the fabs and drabs of the Golden Globes 2011:

FAB:

Anne Hathaway in Armani Privé

Anne Hathaway can never go wrong, so why should this day have been any different? She looked amazing in this body-con, glittering gown with the hint of a train. Note the puffed sleeves: they are obviously not going anywhere just yet!

Eva Longoria in Zac Posen

Eva played it safe with something age appropriate [by that I mean she's not dressed like a 16-year-old-20-year-old-wanna-be] and everyone’s favourite shade, black! It’s not too busty and the capped sleeves and fanned train add that extra pinch of sophistication. A great gown that gives off that “I’m going through a very public divorce but I’m still freaking awesome” vibe!

Brad Pitt in Versace and Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Everyone seems to have a love-hate relationship with this Hollywood power couple. Are they just too hot to be together? Or is she just way too crazy? Either way they look super fab, especially Jolie in that sparkling emerald gown, although maybe Brad declared this a “No Skin” event?

Lea Michelle in Oscar de la Renta

Lea is Pretty in Pink with a dash of everyone’s favourite: ruffles! The material is crumpling in all the right places and that train is sitting perfectly in place. I’m not sure what’s with the attitude though? Maybe she was just told she’s being replaced on Glee in a couple of years?

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa

WOW! Super SUPER fab! It’s Princess Perfect meets Fierce for Olivia this time around. Loving the Marchesa dress [despite the fact that it looks awfully Oscar-de-la-Renta-esque from two years ago]. Her Louboutin’s are popping and kudos to her for showing off the shoes for once!

Julia Stiles in Romona Keveza

Another black gown! You can never go wrong with black mind you. Julia looks classic in this one shouldered gown, adding extra glam with her low-cinched skirt. Pretty!

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham

There’s the peachy pink again! Bullock looks like a goddess in this subtle drape with a dash of sparkle. Loving the fringe too!

Michael Douglas in Canali and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier

Michael Douglas in Canali and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier

These two are looking super chic, and yay for Michael Douglas living on! Catherine looks like she just stepped out of a period film in her beautifully draped strap-less. Note the green again: is it hunter or emerald? Either way green is keen.

Leighton Meester in Burberry

I’m slightly biased towards Leighton because I think she is amazing! However I think it’s fair to say she looks positively perfect in this simple yet sexy frock. Loving the warm tone and the puffed sleeves [again]. Yay Leighton!

Between FAB and DRAB:

January Jones in Versace

I couldn’t decide how I felt about this gown. The colour POPS but then again, her bust looks to be heading that way too. And is the entire dress made out of tassel threads?

DRAB: Shield your eyes.

Julianne Moore in Lanvin

Oh god. So many things wrong with this gown, I’m not sure where to start. The hot metallic pink colour? Or the overly puffed sleeve? And is that creasing around her hips? Oh god.

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

There are no words.
