Before
For our very first men’s beauty review, we put these Dermalogica products in the very capable hand’s of TFJ’s extended family and began to put together our Mr TFJs. Mr TFJ number 1 – we’ll call him Andy for short – tried out these two products and found himself at first confused and then genuinely surprised.
On first trying out the Invigorating Shave Gel Andy, having tried other shaving gels, was only mildly surprised that the gel was indeed clear. What was a shock to him though was how difficult it was for him to turn the gel into a lather. After trying over and over to build up a thick lather, he then decided to read the instructions on the back of the bottle. It turned out that the gel can be used clear for optimum visibility, or as a light lather.
After covering his budding beard in the shaving gel he proceeded to shave using a simple, disposable razor.
Muttering to himself whilst shaving, he described the gel as “…a low amount of foam…smells minty…feels cool…smooth shave…the blade glides more than with shaving cream.”
When asked to give a better explanation he said, “It gives you a good, close shave and is easier to deal with than foamy shaving creams.”
After finishing up, Andy applies the Post-Shave Balm which he says gives a tingling feeling and helps make his skin feel even softer.

So what are the technical sides of these products?
The Invigorating Shave Gel is suitable for all skin types and is free from any oil substances. What it does include though is plenty of antioxidants, wheat germ, yeast extract, clove flower oil, peppermint, menthol, tea tree and hyaluronic acid. This all means that you get a cool, anti-aging shaving product that wont irritate the skin or give you funny red spots.
The Post-Shave Balm is again an oil-free product that works on ridding your skin of any discomfort, irritation and redness that may occur from your normal shave. It contains salicylic acid, horse chestnut, argania, serenoa and sesame seed. These all help to keep away ingrown hairs, skin irritation and oily skin.
Mr TFJ’s final thoughts: An easy to apply shaving gel that leaves messy foam behind and helps you achieve that super close shave that leaves your face feeling like that “baby’s bottom” cliche.
