It’s difficult for every man to know what the right shoe for the right occasion is. It’s even worse at work; you want to make the right impression with your bosses, whilst still maintaining a level of comfort and style. Luckily for you, there are plenty of different styles of shoe out there that are office-friendly so you can afford to experiment a bit and find a pair that work for you. Here are the basics that you need to remember when choosing what shoes to wear to the office.
You will need to understand the dress code for your office before you can go about making choices on what shoe to wear. If there is a strict dress code and you’re expected to turn up to the office in a suit and tie every day, then you will have to go for a very formal shoe a pair of leather wingtips or oxford lace-ups are a good choice as they never go out of style and a well-made pair will usually be hard-wearing. If you’re fortunate enough to work in a laid back office, resist the urge to wear trainers; a pair of men’s casual shoes such as suede or leather loafers will look great with either jeans or tailored trousers.
Although most formal shoes will generally look good with your office wear, there are some outdated styles that you need to steer clear of. Most prominent of these is the square-toed brogue. This style of shoe was extremely popular around a decade ago, however, as time has passed, the shoe has become somewhat outdated. Don’t worry; you won’t have to be wading around in winkle pickers to stay on trend, but aim to choose either a more rounded or pointed toe shoe to avoid falling behind your colleagues in the fashion stakes.
Somewhat contradictory to the last point, many old styles of men’s shoe are back in vogue. A traditional cap toed leather shoe may be something that you remember your granddad wearing, but they’ve become the height of style again, just as they were in his era. If you get yourself a pair, you will find that they will become your favourite formal shoe, due to their durability and surprising level of comfort. If you’re someone who likes to make adventurous fashion choices, why not look for a pair of tassel loafers; they’re another old-fashioned style of shoe that has become a prominent style choice for many men recently.
The bottom line is you have to make a sensible choice of shoe; otherwise your weekdays are going to be absolute hell. Making a sensible selection however does not mean that you won’t be able to find a stylish pair of shoes that will be the envy of your co-workers. Buying a formal boot may be the answer to your problems; they’re more than acceptable under even the strictest office dress codes and they give you ankles and heels much-needed support during your busy day. A leather desert boot might just do the trick in this case.
